Before I begin, I should preface this. Before we started this whole house hunting shenanigans I watched a lot of DIY Network and HGTV. I thought to myself, gee, I could totally rehab a house, that looks like so much fun! Picking out the floors, paint colors, other decor. Well, now that we have a house that does need some rehab… I’d like to simply go back to my ignorant TV watcher self.
This weekend was spent prepping the new house for a facelift and to save on costs we had this great idea to do most of the demo work ourselves. It makes total sense too. However, it sucks. It truly sucks.
We had to cut and pull up disgusting bug infested carpets and pull up the padding. Honestly though, pulling up carpets was pretty easy… it’s just heavy and I’m weak. The padding was annoying because of the glue.
Using that crowbar looking tool to remove the wood “carpet gripper” boards from the concrete floor was HELL on the back and hands. I did the living room, the office, and half of the master bedroom before my husband and to take over. We still have three more rooms to do plus the stairs. Uggghhhh.
Sometime this coming week, we’ll be removing the tile floors from the dining room, family room, loft, kitchen, nook, and all bathrooms. More complaining to come!
Anywho – on to what I learned about myself this weekend.
- I’m not a DIYer
- Removing the carpet and gripper probably wouldn’t have been so hard if I wasn’t so weak.
- My hands swell during intense labor, couldn’t get my wedding rings off and they were hurting.
- I should stick to just watching DIY & HGTV networks.
I know this is a #firstworldproblem but I’ve never done any of this stuff before and it is a lot harder than I thought. I definitely tip my hat to those that do this for a living.
In the end, it will all be worth it though. The pain that my body is feeling today, will all be worth it. #peptalk
