I know I am posting this out of order, but whatever. No one is reading this.
That exciting news that I was going to share and also potentially blog more about was that we FINALLY closed on the house we’d had an offer on since June, JUNE! The closing almost didn’t happen but thankfully our lender and our realtor are fantastic and got things done. I wish I could say the same for the sellers lender & title company, they didn’t know up from down. Anyway, it’s done and the house is ours!
All that excitement? You’ll need to hang on to it. That’s what I tell myself. This house really is a beautiful house and it’s only 6 years old. However, it needs TLC.. badly. The previous owner did not take care of this house at all and it needs a lot more work than we initially thought. We knew the carpets needed to be replaced, several doors and their frames need to be replaced (I’m not sure what she had against doors but they did not fare well in this house) as well as a couple windows. The downstairs a/c was not working for the past year and it turned out to be a less than $100 fix.
One of the things we were not expecting was all the trash she left behind in the house. We basically finished moving her out. The kitchen and bathroom cabinets were full of various items, the dishwasher had dirty dishes in it, there was a bed set and dressers left behind, old entertainment centers that were barely standing, and the garage was full of boxes of papers too. Old clothes and linens in the closets. She basically took what she wanted and left us to clean the house and clean out the rest. After a week, we’re finally done. Unfortunately I don’t think some drawers in the bathroom vanities can be saved, whatever was in them was NASTY and for the life of me, I cannot get whatever gooey ickiness that stuff is, off of the drawers. Such a shame too.
Another thing we were not expecting was the bugs. This house is infested, especially the kitchen. Roaches everywhere! Roach droppings and eggs in every drawer, every cabinet, even the fridge!!! The pantry was full of them as well. EUW! She left food items behind in some of the cabinets that we had to clean out, roaches crawling in and out. Spider webs, cobwebs in a lot of the bottom cabinets. The closets, bathrooms, and the showers all had roaches and spiders. The walls had spiders and webs, most specifically the baseboards and the wall corners. Disgusting.
Thanks to my mother in law, we’ve got the kitchen clean and hopefully most of the bugs dead. Since we won’t be moving in for about a month, we’ll continue exterminate the bugs until they find that our home is no longer suitable for their way of life.
The plan now is to replace all the floors in the house, repaint, there is also a high probability that we’ll just go ahead and redo all of the bathrooms as well. They are absolutely disgusting.
I will try to document our progress on this blog. :-)
Until then, I will leave you with these wonderful pictures.
